The Coral Berlin Platy is a wonderful color form of the Central American Platy, which has long been an evergreen among aquarium fish. Especially its relatively undemanding care and easy socialization make it a popular co-inhabitant.
This coral Berliner, also called mirror carp, belongs to the Xiphophorus maculatus family. On its pretty red base color, black spots cavort from the middle of the body to the tail fin, which give it its special appearance.
You will receive our Korall Berlin Platys mixed sexed.
The habitats of this live-bearing tooth carp range from shallow and low flowing waters to river tributaries. They are usually found in the weedy riparian zones. Due to its very close relationship to Xiphophorus Variatus, the variable mirror carp, common care is not recommended, as hybrids may result. However, with its other relatives, such as mollies and guppies, this risk does not exist.
At almost 6 cm, female Korall Berlin Platies grow larger than the males. They also develop a more sail-shaped anal fin, which also helps distinguish the two. They reproduce very easily, so you can expect the first young soon. Special previous knowledge is not needed, the fry also feed on their own. With dust food or freshly hatched Artemia nauplii you can raise them very well. By the way: the female can even, similar to Poecilia reticulata, store the sperm for a while after mating and still fertilize herself almost 3 months later, that's why even in an all-girl group youngsters appear from time to time. With each litter this fish, which belongs to the viviparous tooth carps, releases between 80 and 110 young.
Korall Berlin Platies are also very sociable and social fish, which feel especially comfortable in a group. We therefore recommend keeping them with ten animals so that they can live out their social behavior accordingly. They do well in aquariums with an edge length of 60 cm or more. This may be planted very well and densely in places. The aquarium water for the Platys can be medium hard to hard with a temperature between 18 and 28 °C.
The socialization with other peaceful fish is very easy. In the community aquarium are suitable Cory catfish, tetras, danios and Loricariid catfish. But also larger shrimps, such as the popular Amano shrimp or Fan shrimp get along with them. Well multiplying Dwarf shrimp species get along well with the Korall Berliner Platy, but it can be that sometimes a shrimp juvenile is eaten, among other things therefore a good planting is worthwhile in any case.
As omnivores the Korall Berlin Platy can be fed well with commercial granulated food, dry food or food flakes for omnivorous ornamental fish. From time to time, live or frozen foods such as Tubifexwhite, black or red Mosquito larvaeand Daphnia, Grindalworms or Artemia may be offered as a variety. Apart from that, they also like to nibble on soft vegetables such as soaked Zucchini chips or Pumpkin chips, or also Algae leaves.
Our food recommendation: The fragrant NatureHolic Guppyfeed has been tailored to the needs of guppies and other viviparous fish in the aquarium. In addition to high-quality animal ingredients, it also contains vegetable components that benefit guppies & co. The soft granules protect the sensitive mouth of the viviparous from injuries caused by hard food grains and provide the fish with a natural feeding experience.
Our plant recommendation: For planting, use NatureHolic InVitros. These are free of snails, planarians and other unwanted co-inhabitants. Also free of algae spores, bacteria and fungi.
Expert Tip: We recommend for fish keeping the NatureHolic 3 Phase Liquid. The care set offers the best all-round protection for your animals. It ensures optimal conditions for successful breeding and keeping.
