The black Lyra Molly is a real Black Beauty in the aquarium! This breeding form of Poecilia sphenops, which descends from the wild molly from South America, has impressive long and beautifully curved fins and really enhances the aquarium! In their habitat these pointed molly inhabit hard to sometimes even brackish water and are quite uncomplicated to keep. This makes them wonderful for explorers and newcomers to the wet hobby, because a Molly is quite forgiving of one or two faux pas.
You will receive our Black Lyra Mollies mixed sexed.
The black beauties have a noble and strong black tone, which extends over the entire body up to the fin tips. The females can reach a size of 10 cm and become a bit more plump. The males remain somewhat behind in body size and are also somewhat more intensely colored.
They are also distinguished by their mating organ under the abdomen.
In the aquarium Black Lyra Mollies reproduce almost constantly and on their own when they feel comfortable. The female, similar to other livebearers, can store the semen for a while and fertilize herself several times. After a gestation period of about 3 weeks, she releases up to 50 young that have developed in eggs in her abdomen. In the community aquarium, however, the young may be eaten by their fellow fish and also by the parents under certain circumstances, which keeps an overpopulation somewhat in check. In dense plants, but also in somewhat shadier corners, such as by floating plants, the young seek protection and can grow in peace. With our YoungFeed they can be fed in an optimal way.
In an aquarium from 80 liters the Black Lyra Mollys can be maintained well. They do not make any particular demands on the furnishings, but Roots and stones, as well as other decorations serve the structure and offer among other things retreat possibilities to the animals. In places the aquarium may be densely weedy, because they know it from their habitat. These weeds provide hiding places especially for juvenile fish, but also for invertebrates. Their aquarium water may be hard to very hard, also salt additions promote their well-being and also protect against diseases. The temperature-sensitive animals should be maintained if possible with tempered changing water. In addition, they are Mollys very sociable group fish, which can, with too few comrades of the same species care. Therefore you should keep the Molly with at least 10 animals of the same kind together. Conceivable would be likewise further color forms of it, which you find with us in the store. However, he can mate with these, which creates a colorful mix.
The very peaceful Mollys are very well suited for a community aquarium and can therefore be kept together with other peaceful fishes, such as Guppies and Platiesbut also Catfishes can be socialized. Even Dwarf shrimps and also the popular Amano shrimp get along with him. Only crayfish should not be put with them, because they could possibly catch and eat the molly, or at least inflict serious injuries that heal poorly.
As omnivores, Black Lyra Mollies can be easily fed with meat and vegetable food in the aquarium. They will eat almost any dry or flake food, but also granules. They also nibble on algae and growth, but also on decaying plant material. From time to time they can also be fed with live or frozen food like for example Tubifexwhite, black or red Mosquito larvae, as well as Daphnia, Grindalworms or Artemia can be spoiled. Also soaked vegetables such as Zucchini chips or Pumpkin chips, but also Algae leaves they nibble with pleasure.
Our food recommendation: The fragrant NatureHolic Guppyfeed has been tailored to the needs of guppies and other viviparous fish in the aquarium. In addition to high-quality animal ingredients, it also contains vegetable components that benefit guppies & co. The soft granules protect the sensitive mouth of the viviparous from injuries caused by hard food grains and provide the fish with a natural feeding experience.
Our plant recommendation: For planting, use NatureHolic InVitros. These are free of snails, planarians and other unwanted co-inhabitants. Also free of algae spores, bacteria and fungi.
Expert Tip: We recommend for fish keeping the NatureHolic 3 Phase Liquid. The care set offers the best all-round protection for your animals. It ensures optimal conditions for successful breeding and keeping.
