Blue Bolt - various breeding groups

The Skyfish Blue Bolt shrimp is like all shrimp of the breeder Leon Su of exceptionally high quality. The Blue Bolt is a color form of the Taiwan shrimp, also called Shadow shrimp, i.e. a Caridina sp. The Grade S of the Skyfish Blue Bolt shrimp stands out due to the dense white top color, which allows the deep blue undercolor to shine through at the head. In these beautiful dwarf shrimps, the head-breast carapace, i.e. the carapace, shows a less dense white coloration, which is why the shrimp glows blue in the anterior part, while the abdomen is colored white. In the higher grade SS, on the other hand, the white coloration is strongly reduced, so that you can see the blue undercolor on the whole shrimp body. Here you buy a breeding group of 10 animalseach.
Shadow shrimp are now considered with high certainty to be the result of a cross between bee shrimp (Caridina logemanni) and tiger shrimp (Caridina mariae) - so is the Skyfish Blue Bolt.

the females of the Blue Bolt grow to a size of 2,5 to 3 cm, the males remain with approx. 2 cm under it. The females have a deeper drawn down pleon, the males are quite clearly slimmer. The females can also be recognized by the fact that they carry eggs under the abdomen from time to time. The second segment of the abdomen is significantly enlarged in some females. This feature is also known as a tiger scoop.

The Blue Bolt Shrimp Caridina sp. needs oxygen-rich and rather cool, preferably uncontaminated water. Tap water is not necessarily suitable for their keeping. We recommend for Taiwan shrimp in general and for the Skyfish Blue Bolt shrimp in particular the treatment of osmosis water or demineralized water from a demineralizer with special hardening salt for shrimp that need soft water - i.e. with Bee Salt or Bee Salt. Skyfish Blue Bolt shrimp should also be kept on active Soil. Soil pulls water hardness down and buffers pH. With good conditions and some experience of the keeper, Skyfish Blue Bolt shrimp are not particularly difficult to breed. Depending on the water temperature, the female releases 20 to 40 juveniles from her eggs, which she had pinned under her abdomen for three to five weeks. The juveniles of the Skyfish Blue Bolt Shrimp are quite small and quite site-faithful.

Skyfish Blue Bolt shrimp are omnivorous and eat a wide variety of foods. We definitely recommend a more plant based diet and once or twice a week a suitable protein food for Caridina hybrids. Skyfish Blue Bolt shrimp love to eat green dried walnut leaves, nettle leaves and as a permanent food brown autumn leaves or sea almond leaves. The latter can be left in the aquarium without hesitation. The tannins contained in them are extremely beneficial for the shrimp.

As group animals Skyfish Blue Bolt shrimps are peaceful aquarium companions. They can be well socialized with shrimps that have the same demands on the water values. However, mating is to be expected here, resulting in loss of color and markings. Skyfish Blue Bolt shrimp do not reproduce excessively and are quite susceptible to stress, so you should think about a species tank and definitely not keep the shrimp together with predators or with very lively fish. A socialization with growth eating snails can work. However, since snails often do not grow old in soft water, you can also use shiny worms or Tubifex as a clean-up troop, which have no problems with the low water hardness. Under no circumstances should Blue Bolts be socialized with crayfish, freshwater crabs, predatory snails or mussels.
