Blyxa japonica is native to nutrient-rich water holes, swamps and slow-flowing rivers in South and Southeast Asia.
The plant was made famous by the aquarium work of the late Takashi Amano in the 1990s.
Blyxa has a distinctive grass-like appearance and moves easily in circulating aquarium water, creating a sense of dynamism compared to other more robust plants.
