Bucephalandra sp. "Alamanda" is an intense dark blue-green and has an attractive wavy leaf margin. The leaves are slightly curved downwards
The epiphytic plants of the genus Bucephalandra are not yet all determined to species, so they all bear the name Bucephalandra sp. These easy-to-cultivate, slow-growing epiphytic plants from Borneo are attractive novelties that have only recently found their place in the hobby. In the biotope, bucas are found as rheophytes perched on rocks in splash areas. During heavy rains, most sites are flooded and have a very strong current, which Bucephalandra defies with its strong adhesive roots. Bucephalandra can easily be kept under water all year round and will even flower there.
Bucephalandra "Alamanda" has no great demands on light and fertilization. With CO2 it grows a little faster, but even without a special CO2 supply it can be kept without problems. It even feels comfortable in areas shaded by taller plants. Gradually the plants grow into attractive clusters.
The propagation of Bucephalandra sp. "Alamanada" is also not difficult. To do this, use sharp scissors to cut off a piece of the rhizome with at least two leaflets and reattach it elsewhere.
Bucephalandra "Alamanda" should not be planted in the ground, the rhizome (the rootstock) can then rot. However, if the lateral roots grow into the substrate, this will not be a problem. Optimally, let your Bucephalandra "Alamanda" grow perched on a root or rock. Until it is firmly grown with its adhesive roots you can secure it with a nylon thread or a few drops of cyanoacrylate based super glue.
"Alamanda" also does great in a humid terrarium with high humidity.
It is possible that Bucephalandra "Alamanda" will shed all its leaves at first after it is established. It needs to adjust to the conditions in the new environment and sprout suitable leaves - it will reliably do so again, so don't worry! Depending on the environment, the newly sprouted leaf shape may be slightly different from the old one.
Our recommendation: For a splendid plant growth we recommend the use of the NatureHolic fertilizer series and for new plants the Premium Nutrient Substrate NatureHolic GroundBooster.
Expert Tip: With the NatureHolic Plant Glue glue this plant gently and easily on stones, roots and decoration . Made in Germany, the adhesive does not pollute the water and has no negative impact on the stock.
