from over 3,000 reviews "Yellow fancy staghorn snail - Clithon sowerianum of the genus Clithon is simply beautiful with the fancy, thick-shelled shell with the yellow color pattern. Some of the animals have small spiny shell appendages, hence the name antler snail. It lives in nature in the mouths of small streams in the Indo-Pacific region in fresh water. It remains quite small with a maximum shell size of 2 cm. This snail is bisexual, but the sex cannot be recognized from the outside.
In the aquarium, this beautiful snail cannot reproduce, so it does not become a nuisance. The females lay their egg cocoons, but the eggs hatch into tiny larvae that need brackish to seawater to breed. Therefore, breeding in the aquarium is impossible.
The staghorn snail is a very peaceful animal and gets along very well with all other aquarium inhabitants that do not eat snails. Even nosey fish such as platies or guppies cannot harm it due to its shell shape.
The Fancy Staghorn Snail is a tireless algae e ater and feeds mainly on algae growth and other coverings. It also likes to graze on brown autumn leaves . It keeps the aquarium panes sparkling clean and also eats algae from the plants and decoration. Especially in aquascaping it is very popular.
This snail cannot be bred yet. The animals are therefore natural specimens that do not know any other food in the beginning. Staghorn snails must not be placed in freshly set up aquariums without algae growth, they would starve to death. If you notice that the animals decrease in size (for example that their foot shrinks instead of growing), you have to feed them with a special snail food to feed them. The staghorn snail does not like plants at all.
The Fancy staghorn snail needs water that is not too acidic, with a pH above 6.5 and a carbonate hardness above 3.
