This dwarf spear leaf, scientifically called Anubias barteri var. nana, is attached to a root, with which it can be used flexibly in the aquarium. As a perching plant, this attitude is optimal; planted in the ground, the rootstock could rot.
The small dark green leaflets of the dwarf spear leaf are roundish and sit on short, sturdy leaf stalks that spring from a firm dark green rootstock. The slow-growing Anubias barteri var. nana blooms from time to time, even when completely submerged.
Thanks to its hard foliage, the dwarf spear leaf is also suitable for use in a perch tank, for example. It still grows well in shade and under low light, but will tolerate brighter light.
To propagate, simply cut off a piece of the rhizome, which should still have at least two leaves attached, so that the offshoot will continue to grow without problems.
Anubias barteri var. nana can be kept above the water level in a permanently humid environment, making it wonderfully suited for humid terrariums, aquaterrariums and paludariums.
Our recommendation: For a magnificent plant growth we recommend the use of the NatureHolic fertilizer series and for new plants the Premium Nutrient Substrate NatureHolic GroundBooster.
Expert Tip: With the NatureHolic plant glue glue this plant gently and easily on stones, roots and decoration . Made in Germany, the adhesive does not pollute the water and has no negative impact on the stock.
