Mbuna is actually the African name of the rock cichlid from Lake Malawi, but here it refers to a gnarled root on which the slow-growing dwarf spear leaf Anubias barteri var. nana is applied. This root can be used very well in perch tanks, because the growth of spear leaf is not touched by herbivorous fish. So you can also set green accents in a perch tank! The Dwarf Spear Leaf with its dense dark green leaves fits perfectly here, as a perching plant this use is absolutely optimal. Anubias barteri var. nana also blooms under water.
The jungle mbuna can be used in any area of the aquarium, because the plant copes wonderfully with little to much light on it.
Anubias barteri var. nana can be propagated easily by simply cutting off a small section of the rhizome with at least two leaves on it. Please never plant Anubias in the substrate to avoid the rhizome starting to rot.
Mbunas with Anubias barteri var. nana can easily be used as an eye-catcher on the land part in a wet terrarium.
The jungle mbuna is a natural product and may therefore differ from the roots shown in the pictures.
