Petrified foliage is probably one of the most beautiful hardscape materials in the aquarium and terrarium. Not only by the peculiar appearance but also because of its origin, each fossil tells its own story and transforms the tank into a dreamlike underwater world that invites you to dream and linger.

The stones are pure natural products, which were created by petrification. In the process, dense layers of foliage were once fossilized with the help of oxygen exclusion, as is the case with mud deposits, for example. This often happens when forests are completely covered with ash after volcanic eruptions and organic components are replaced over time by minerals such as silica. These minerals are also crucial for the individual colors; a reddish-brown hue, for example, indicates the presence of iron oxides.

The impressive structures provide gigantic depth effects. Deep craters and fissured cracks serve as a retreat for small invertebrates, but can also be planted. In this way, you breathe new life into the petrified foliage. Also useful microorganisms find here the perfect substrate to multiply.

Combined with different sizes you create great designs, especially together with roots and Ground coveras we carry them in our store. We recommend rinsing the Petrified Foliage before using it in the aquarium to remove transport-related abrasion. Larger chunks could also be broken up by crushing, but we do not recommend this, as the great structure could otherwise be destroyed.
