The dwarf shrimp of the species Paracaridina meridionalis was synonymized with Paracaridina zijinica by Werner Klotz. It is known under many German names, among others as Larry shrimp, Camouflage tiger shr imp or also under Hong Kong shrimp. This extremely variably colored and marked shrimp has its origins in Asia/Hong Kong.
With a size of up to 3.5 cm, this extremely active shrimp is somewhat larger than many other dwarf shrimp. The males are also much smaller than the females when fully grown and also less bulky.
The Larry shrimp is not particularly demanding. It likes quite soft, clean water and a low germ density and can be kept and also bred very well for example in osmosis water prepared with a special mineral salt for bee shrimp (bee salt). For a group of 10 to 20 animals as initial stock already a tank from 20 litersis sufficient.
The aquarium may be densely planted as for most other shrimps, but should still have some swimming space. Mosses should not be missing in shrimp aquariums, as the shrimp not only find food in them, but also hiding places. With darker substrate Camouflage Tiger Shrimp show stronger colors and are thus better accentuated.
The breeding of the Larry shrimp in the aquarium is not difficult. About every 4 weeks the animals mate and release after three to four weeks gestation period about 20-30 fully developed baby shrimp. Camouflage tigers belong to the specialized reproductive type.
Camouflage Tiger shrimp will accept just about any food with no problem, greens such as nettle or spinach, but also frozen foods. Brown autumn leaves may be gladly given as a permanent food. It has no negative influence on the water values, but on the contrary has a positive effect on the development and molting of the larval shrimp. Special food for shrimps has proven to be particularly effective in keeping Camouflage Tigers.
A socialization with peaceful fish, other shrimps and snails usually works out very well, provided that the demands on the water values are roughly comparable. If young animals are to come up regularly with fish company, it is recommended to offer many protection and hiding places in the form of dense moss cushions or also small clay caves . If one wants to breed this beautiful wild form specifically, it should not be socialized, but kept in the species tank.
Our food recommendation: NatureHolic's soft mainfeed softpads are designed for daily feeding. They contain all the nutrients shrimp need for shell development, egg formation and growth. During the production process we pay attention to a gentle and environmentally friendly production, in which the vitamins and other valuable ingredients are preserved as much as possible.
Our plant recommendation: Use for the planting NatureHolic InVitros. These are free of snails, planaria and other unwanted co-inhabitants. Also free of algae spores, bacteria and fungi.
Expert Tip: We recommend when keeping fish the NatureHolic 3 Phase Liquid. The care set offers the best all-round protection for your animals. It ensures optimal conditions for successful breeding and keeping.
