Cryptocoryne wendtii "Brown", Wendt's brown water lily, is optimally suited for the middle ground. At 25 cm tall, it fits both nanoaquariums and larger tanks. Its leaves are dark olive green to brown.
Cryptocoryne wendtii "Brown" grows relatively slowly, the plant is quite undemanding in terms of water hardness, temperature, nutrients and light intensity. Even in shaded areas it still feels comfortable and grows happily.
What the brown water lily does not like at all, however, are sudden changes. Then it can happen that its leaves suddenly become transparent and that the plant throws them off - the notorious cryptocorysis rot, which, however, is nothing more than an attempt to adapt to changing conditions. In this case, the plant sheds the leaves that have become unusable and adapted to the old conditions, and then sprouts new ones. So if the brown water lily is bitching, all you really have to do is hang on until the new leaves are there, and then all will be well again. Remove the dead leaves from the aquarium to prevent snail infestations and increased algae growth.
Cryptocoryne wendtii "Brown" reproduces by sprouting daughter plants on the rootstock. You can cut these off with the help of sharp scissors and replant them in another location.
You can also cultivate Cryptocoryne wendtii "Brown" above the water. All the plant needs is high humidity and a moist, nutrient-rich substrate like Soil. It is well suited for larger wet terrariums and paludariums or aquaterrariums.
Guaranteed to be free of algae, snails and other nuisances, this InVitro grown aquarium plant. Cryptocoryne wendtii "Brown", which can be purchased here, is also not harmful to dwarf shrimps, as no pesticides need to be used during cultivation in the nursery. Quarantine measures are therefore unnecessary. Before planting the Brown Cryptocoryne in the aquarium, you should rinse off the transparent nutrient substrate in which the roots are embedded.
Our recommendation: For a magnificent plant growth we recommend the use of the NatureHolic fertilizer series and for new set up the Premium Nutrient Substrate NatureHolic GroundBooster.
