Cryptocoryne x purpurea - Dennerle InVitro

Cryptocoryne x purpurea, the purple water lily, is a natural hybrid of Cryptocoryne griffithii and Cryptocoryne cordata var. cordata. It was found in Malaysia and grows here like most members of the genus in shallow water and along lightly shaded stream banks.

Cryptocoryne xpurpurea is rarely cultivated in the aquarium. One reason for this is its relatively low profile and slow growth. The large nurseries usually concentrate on common and fast-growing varieties from the Cryptocoryne wendtii form group. We are therefore all the more pleased that Dennerle has recently reintroduced this beautiful aquarium plant to its range.

Cryptocoryne x purpurea is relatively undemanding and needs only medium light. CO2 is not absolutely necessary, but can promote growth and coloration. The substrate should be nutrient-rich because, like all Cryptocorynes, this water lily absorbs nutrients preferentially through the roots.
