Hybrid Skunk/Tangtai - Caridina sp.

This mix of reddish and black hybrid skunk/tangtai shrimp is especially suitable for high breeding or crossbreeding. The animals belonging to the Caridina sp. originally originated from Tangerine Tiger (Caridina mariae) and various Taiwan shrimps (Caridina logemanni). Depending on crossbreeding or backbreeding particularly interesting animals fall here, with which however hardly a prediction can be made in the apron. With their great patterns and drawings this shrimp mix is a cool grab bag, which surprises and fascinates every time anew.

Males and females can be distinguished optically rather only by their body size, because the females become with up to 3 centimeters larger than the males, which again also remain very slim. The ladies also appear rather massive with their round belly. As soon as all water parameters are right, the shrimp mate willingly every 4-6 weeks. The female then carries about 20-40 eggs under her pleon, from which she releases living young after another 3-4 weeks, which remain with the mother for a week before they explore the aquarium independently. As they often do not move far away from the place of hatching in the first time, it is recommended to feed them with a good dust food like our BabyFeed, so that they grow up healthy. Especially autumn leaves are excellent for rearing, because between the layers the young find shelter, which is important, especially since they often shed their skin in the first period.

The shrimp aquarium for the Skung/ Tangtai Mix should have at least 10 lit ers, but we recommend 20 liters and more, so that the animals can develop stress-free. As substrate active Soil is a good choice, because this cushions the water values somewhat and stabilizes them. With demineralized osmosis water and a special mineral salt for bee shrimp, like we carry in our store, an excellent bee setup can be created, on which your animals will feel comfortable. Denser plant stands and decorations like roots or caves are also very beneficial for the animals, which often retreat to shed their skin. The conductivity should be between 250-300 microsiemens, the temperature should not exceed 25 °C, in summer it is advisable to cool down the aquarium with an aquarium cooler. Also with the Hybrid Skunk/ TangTai Mix it is important to keep the water well maintained and meticulously clean. Therefore regular partial water changes of 10-30 % per week are mandatory.

The very peaceful animals can also be kept together with other snails or small peaceful fish. With other species of bee shrimp or tiger shrimp you have to be aware that they could crossbreed with each other. Information about this can be found in our crossbreeding table. However, keeping and breeding in a pure species tank is recommended, especially to reduce stress.

Brown autumn leaves is beneficial in the aquarium of these omnivorous animals. A biofilm of beneficial bacteria forms on it, which the shrimp love to nibble down, but the decomposing foliage afterwards as well. In general, a staple food for dwarf shrimp such as our Mainfeed is suitable. Twice a week they should be offered a Protein food twice a week, so that they do not get any growth disorders or moulting problems.
