The Blue King Tetra Super Blue (Inpaichthys kerri "Super blue") is just great. This beautiful true tetra originates from tropical South America. With a length of 3 to a maximum of 5 cm, the beautifully colored fish is a rather small ornamental fish for the aquarium.
Both sexes have a broad black longitudinal stripe along the middle of the body. The males are above the stripe shimmering steel blue colored, the females are slightly lighter in coloration. The females also appear somewhat sturdier and more robust overall than the males. Like all tetras, the Blue King Tetra has a small adipose fin, which may be slightly reddish in the female.
Inpaichthys kerri "Super blue" is a peaceful and rather calm group fish, which feels only starting from a group strength of approximately 10 pieces in the aquarium correctly well. A real shoal forms the king tetra only at strong stress, the fish are otherwise rather in loose groups or also once individually in the aquarium.
The breeding of Inpaichthys kerri "Super Blue" is relatively complicated, but the fish are bred in the hobby. The King Tetra Super Blue needs very soft and slightly acidic water with a pH of about 5.5 to 6.5 and a water temperature of 24-27 °C for reproduction. The parents are spawn predators, so the use of a spawning grid or a thick moss tuft is recommended, alternatively the adult fish should be removed from the tank after spawning. Young King Tetras are optimally raised on Artemia euplii and other fine live foods.
In the biotope, the King Tetra Super Blue lives in largely plantless waters with dense driftwood, and in the aquarium it also likes to stand among finely branched roots or aquatic plants, but also likes free space to swim. Inpaichthys kerri "Super blue" reacts to a too bare tank with washed out colors. In soft water with a pH up to 7 this pretty little ornamental fish feels very well, the water temperature should be approx. 24-27 °C.
As a tetra, the King Tetra Super Blue is an omnivore. It likes live food and of course normal flake food or granulated food for aquarium fish.
Its rather small mouth prevents the Blue King Tetra from going after larger shrimp, but very small juvenile shrimp will certainly be eaten. As a relatively reserved fish, it tends to get lost in the company of very lively fish. With Neocaridina, Sulawesi shrimps or Amano shr imps Inpaichthys kerri can be socialized without problems, as well as with dwarf crabs.
Our food recommendation: This NatureHolic Main Feed is a professional staple feed for all aquarium fish. Main feed we supply in the form of soft granules, which thanks to its grain size of half a millimeter can be easily absorbed by small to medium-sized fish. The soft consistency resembles the texture of insect larvae in nature and protects the fish mouth from micro-injuries.
Our plant recommendation: For planting, use NatureHolic InVitros. These are free of snails, planaria and other unwanted co-inhabitants. Also free of algae spores, bacteria and fungi.
Expert Tip: We recommend when keeping fish the NatureHolic 3 Phase Liquid. The care set offers the best all-round protection for your animals. It ensures optimal conditions for successful breeding and keeping.
