from over 3,000 reviews "Originally from Southeast Asia, the Mocca Blanket Snail, often simply called TDS, is a popular aquarium snail and is also known by its scientific name Melanoides tuberculata. The Mocha Trumpet Snail is a descendant of the Inish or Malayan Trumpet Snail and differs externally by its great coffee-colored hue, which also gave it its name.
Especially in the aquarium, the Mokka's cap snail is a great helper, because it loosens the substrate, as long as it is fine gravel or sand, and scours it for food as well as mulm and detritus. This prevents deposits and compaction and mixes the soil. The advantage of this is that it transports nutrients better to root plants, which in turn grow better.
During the day, the Mocha Turmdeckelschnecke stays almost exclusively in the substrate and comes out only at dusk. As an important indicator for the water parameters, they show very quickly if something is wrong, because then they hang on the aquarium glass even during the day. Usually lack of oxygen or too high nitrite levels are the trigger for such behavior.
Mainly mocha trumpet snails feed on food remains, but also on biofilms and algae coatings. Therefore, in principle, they do not need to be fed. The amount of feeding determines their population rate. Although this TDS is separately sexual, one almost never encounters a male. Therefore the reproduction of the females takes place by juvenile production. Every few days it releases single live young in the process.
Mocha trumpet snails are very peaceful aquarium inhabitants, which can be socialized with practically everyone, as long as they are not snail eaters. It is also rather tolerant in its requirements and is very easy to maintain and propagate in almost any water, even brackish water.
Our food recommendation: With the Natureholic Snail Feed Power Paste you create a feeding lawn that is very well accepted by all aufwuchs feeding snails. Also delicate wild-caught snails such as racing snails or staghorn snails, which are stressed after transport and do not go to conventional food, can be well fed up with it.
Our plant recommendation: Use for planting NatureHolic InVitros. These are free of snails, planarians and other unwanted co-inhabitants. Also free of algae spores, bacteria and fungi.
Expert Tip: We recommend for fish keeping the NatureHolic 3 Phase Liquid. The care set offers the best all-round protection for your animals. It ensures optimal conditions for successful breeding and keeping.
Actively prevent outbreaks: With the invisible Natureholic Snail Barrier you prevent the escape and loss of your snails from the aquarium.
