The wild form of the bee shrimp comes from South China/Hong Kong. Only in December 2014 this shrimp was described as Caridina logemanni . It is often banded black, and some wild bees also have some white pigments. Females grow up to 3 cm in size, while males remain smaller and also slightly less chubby.
In the Hong Kong biotope, wild bee shrimp live in a small stream with very soft, clean and oxygenated cool water with a low pH and carbonate hardness of 0. It is essential to provide them with these conditions in the aquarium as well. The easiest way to achieve this is by using osmosis water or demineralized water, which is remineralized with a special hardening salt and then exactly meets the needs of the wild bee shrimp. The use of an active soil has also proven to be effective. It buffers the water values in a range that is favorable for the wild form of the bee shrimp and prevents fluctuations in water values. A neutral substrate can also work, just the substrate should definitely not harden up. The wild bee shrimp loves very clean, bacteria-poor water. A water change of about 10 to 30 % per week is therefore recommended. Temperatures above 25 °C are not well tolerated, in summer an aquarium with wild bee shrimp should therefore possibly be cooled.
If the animals feel comfortable, they are not difficult to breed. After three to four weeks, the female releases 20 to 40 young from the eggs carried under her abdomen. The babies of the wild bee shrimp are immediately independent. Dust food dispersed throughout the aquarium aids in rearing.
Wild bee shrimp are omnivores and sc avengers. They are very fond of grazing on brown autumn leaves , which can be left in the aquarium as permanent food. But shrimp food is also suitable as well as green food(nettle, spinach, green dried walnut leaves, ...). Twice a week you should give a suitable protein food and otherwise feed mainly vegetable.
The wild bee shrimp is a peaceful group animal and also gets along with other shrimp. You can also socialize wild bee shrimp with snails or very small, peaceful fish, although a species tank is also ideal for them.
Our food recommendation: NatureHolic's soft mainfeed softpads are designed for daily feeding. They contain all the nutrients shrimp need for shell development, egg formation and growth. During the production we pay attention to a gentle and environmentally friendly production, where the vitamins and other valuable ingredients are preserved as much as possible.
Our plant recommendation: Use for planting NatureHolic InVitros. These are free of snails, planaria and other unwanted co-inhabitants. Also free of algae spores, bacteria and fungi.
Expert Tip: We recommend for fish keeping the NatureHolic 3 Phase Liquid. The care set offers the best all-round protection for your animals. It ensures optimal conditions for successful breeding and keeping.
