Silver Lyra Mollies are a great silver variety of the Molly, which is also called the Pointed M olly. The wild form of the Molly originates from Central and South America, where it is commonly found. This Poecilia sphenops inhabits mainly river underflows and also estuaries, it is even found in brackish water, which is why you can add salt to your aquarium. Its great color and the very easy keeping make it a very popular beginner fish especially for aquarium newbies, which is also one of the first aquarium fish that can be found in many colors and breeding forms today.
The Silver Lyra Molly has beautiful elongated dorsal and caudal fins and shines in a very subtle, but also noble silver-white. Our Silver Lyra Mollies are available in mixed sex, which means you will receive both males and females.
The males of the Silver Lyra Mollys grow to about 4-6 cm, the females reach 6-10 cm . They are wonderful in an aquarium of 80 liters or more. Mainly by the so-called gonopodium, a sexual appendage in the males, the sexes can be distinguished, because in the females this is missing. Their breeding is very easy, because they reproduce independently when they feel comfortable in their aquarium. After mating, the female can store the sperm for some time and re-fertilize herself several times and give birth to young. Like their relatives, the guppies and platies, they give birth to live young as live-bearing toothcarps. These develop in the mother's abdomen in eggs that crack open when released into the open water. Since not only the parents, but also the other co-fish chase the young, it is worthwhile to have good weeding, which the animals also know from their habitat.
Mollies are also very sociable animals that feel lonely if kept in too small a group. We therefore recommend to keep their group with at least 10 of the same animals. Mollies can also be kept together with other color varieties, in which case their colors may interbreed and also mix, making the aquarium colorful. The Molly's new home should be 80 liters if possible. Their aquarium water may be hard to very hard. They feel comfortable at a temperature between 24 and 28 °C. Also, their changing water should be warmed, as they are somewhat sensitive to temperature fluctuations.
Silver Lyra Mollies can also be combined great with other fish, if they are peaceful and come from similar water parameters. To liven up the substrate, for example, are suitable Corydoras and Loricariid catfishbut also larger shrimps, such as the popular Amano shrimp or Fan shrimp. Also well reproducing Dwarf shrimp species and dwarf crayfish can be socialized with them.
The omnivorous molly eats both carnivorous food and vegetarian food. In the aquarium it likes to pick at algae coverings and also eats soft aquatic plants. With a varied diet that includes soft vegetables such as soaked Zucchini chips or Pumpkin chipsor also Algae leaves it can be supplied therefore very well. Otherwise it can be accustomed also well to normal dry food and flake food.
Our food recommendation: The fragrant NatureHolic Guppyfeed has been tailored to the needs of guppies and other viviparous fish in the aquarium. In addition to high-quality animal ingredients, it also contains vegetable components that benefit guppies & co. The soft granules protect the sensitive mouth of the viviparous from injuries caused by hard food grains and provide the fish with a natural feeding experience.
Our plant recommendation: For planting, use NatureHolic InVitros. These are free of snails, planarians and other unwanted co-inhabitants. Also free of algae spores, bacteria and fungi.
Expert Tip: We recommend for fish keeping the NatureHolic 3 Phase Liquid. The care set offers the best all-round protection for your animals. It ensures optimal conditions for successful breeding and keeping.
