With its shimmering purple foot and black shell, the Purpel Haze lidded snail is an attractive little shell carrier that causes quite a stir in the aquarium. It is uncomplicated to maintain and even reproduces. Because it feeds on growth and algae, it also keeps the aquarium sparkling clean! - Garnelio

Description

The pretty Purple Haze is a member of the Turmdeckelschnecken and scientifically named Melanoides buccinoidea (Olivier, 1801). Its natural habitat is clear and fast-flowing waters, but also other open waters such as pools, ponds and canals in the Mediterranean region. It is commonly found in large populations in waters of Jordan, but also in Lebanon, Cyprus to southern Turkey. Its care in the aquarium is just as easy as that of other trumpet snails, so that it becomes quite an eye-catcher with its impressive appearance.

The Purple Haze has a black shell and body, while its foot shimmers purple. From the outside it is difficult to distinguish between the sexes, but the animals are bisexual, so that they can be easily bred in the aquarium. The shell is smooth and has six coils. It is also frequently seen in the daytime in the viewing area. This little beauty reaches a size of just 1-4 cm.

In its habitat, the great Purple Haze TDS is often found in rather rocky areas where they feed on growth and algae, thus also helping to keep the aquarium clean and feeding on food debris, algae deposits and biofilms, so additional feeding is not absolutely necessary in a well established aquarium. However, their reproduction rate can be well controlled by the food supply. The Purple Haze needs medium hard to hard water. ja! Raubschnecken ernähren sich von anderen Schnecken.

Question: "Ich habe am Freitag drei dieser Schönheiten von euch bekommen. Zwei hängen seither durchgehend am Wasserrand (bewegen sich aber). Die dritte ist unauffindbar. Die Wasserwerte sind optimal, habe sogar schon O2 am Boden getestet. Auch euer Schneckenfeed lockt sie nicht. Ist das ein Verhalten, dass ihr zufällig in der Umstellung auch beobachtet? Ich mache mir Sorgen um die Schneckis... "
