The Blue Tetra is a medium-sized true tetra originating from South America, more precisely from eastern Peru. With more than 1000 described species, the tetras are probably the largest family of fishes kept in aquariums. Both males and females of Knodus borki have an olive-green ground color, which is crossed by a dark longitudinal line at the level of the lateral line. This longitudinal line is dark blue to purple edged in the males, but rather faintly bluish in the females. Adult animals with a final size of about 5 cm can also often develop white fringed fin tips. If well cared for, the blue perusal characins can live 6-8 years.
As a free spawner, the female Blue Pearl Tetra lays her eggs among fine plants. To keep the spawn predators from eating their own eggs, it is recommended to let them spawn in pairs in a spawning aquarium with java moss as spawning substrate. Here, soft water values can be achieved with sea almond tree products , which also protect the spawn from fungus. The fry hatch after about 24 hours, depending on the temperature, and can be raised from an age of about one week with infusoria, freshly hatched Artemia nauplii but also fine dust food such as our NatureHolic YoungFeed.
Since the Blue Perusal Aquarium Fish is a rather lively representative that wants to swim out, it is recommended to take this into account when designing the aquarium and to provide for a sufficiently large aquarium and enough free swimming space. For permanent keeping aquariums from 80-100 cm edge length would be recommended. The planting of the aquarium should be aligned in such a way that the fish find on the one hand enough space to swim, on the other hand also retreat possibilities in the form of for example background plants should be present. In addition, the colors of the fish are particularly well accentuated with a somewhat subdued lighting.
This schooling fish should be kept in a group, we recommend keeping at least 6 of the same species. Dwarf cichlids are suitable for socialization, but also Corydoras and Ancistrus, which also enliven the substrate.
As omnivores, the Blue Perusal Tetra can be fed in the aquarium with standard dry foods such as granulate food and flake food for omnivorous fish. Via occasional live foods and frozen foods such as white, black and red mosquito larvae, daphnia, water fleas or Artemia, its diet can be spiced up well.
Our recommendation: The NatureHolic Main Feed is a professional staple feed for all aquarium fish. Main feed we supply in the form of soft granules, which thanks to its grain size of half a millimeter can be easily absorbed by small to medium-sized fish. The soft consistency resembles the texture of insect larvae in nature and protects the fish mouth from micro-injuries.
Our plant recommendation: Use for planting NatureHolic InVitros. These are free of snails, planarians and other unwanted co-inhabitants. Also free from algae spores, bacteria and fungi.
Expert Tip: We recommend for fish keeping the NatureHolic 3 Phase Liquid. The care set offers the best all-round protection for your animals. It ensures optimal conditions for successful breeding and keeping.
