The Blue Dream shr imp is also called Blue Velvet shr imp. It is a color variation of Neocaridina davidi, the backstroke or algae shrimp. The Blue Dream shrimp has a very beautiful blue as body color or undercolor and has dark blue to black spots, stripes or dots on the carapace as cover color of different sizes. Each shrimp has its individual pattern. The base color can range from a Caribbean light blue to a deep, intense blue-black, and in some animals the top coloration is so intensely blue that you can only guess at the under coloration.
To give the shrimp babies a good start in life we recommend Babyfeed.
The females of the Blue Dream shrimp have a green egg spot as a special eye-catcher. Females grow to 2.5 to 3 cm, males remain somewhat smaller. The Blue Dream Shrimp has taken the shrimp scene in Germany by storm. This is certainly due to their extremely attractive color, but also because these shrimp are very easy to care for and robust. In well-planted aquariums with fine-feathered plants such as moss , the animals feel particularly comfortable.
As omnivores, Blue Dream shrimp are not particularly picky about their food. They will gladly take plant foods such as nettles, spinach , or plant-based shrimp foods, but should be fed a suitable protein food twice a week. Brown autumn leaves should be constantly present in the shrimp tank as a permanent food.
As peaceful group animals, these shrimp are very comfortable in an initial group of 10 to 20. The Blue Dream shrimp is also extremely uncomplicated when it comes to socialization, provided the tank mates are peaceful and not too hectic or pushy. If this condition is given, Blue Dream shrimp can be kept together with fish, crabs, freshwater crabs, snails and also mussels . They can also be kept together with other shrimp species and colors. In this case, however, one should definitely pay attention to the fact that the demands on the water values are approximately comparable. Offspring from mixtures with other colors are usually no longer color-fast.
The Blue Dream shrimp is easy to breed and reproduces very well under good conditions. After carrying the eggs under the abdomen for about three to four weeks, the female releases 20 to 40 fully developed young. These are also already blue in color. The young can stay in the parent tank, because the parents do not chase them.
Our food recommendation: The soft Mainfeed Softpads from NatureHolic are designed for daily feeding. They contain all the nutrients shrimp need for shell development, egg formation and growth. During the production we pay attention to a gentle and environmentally friendly production, in which the vitamins and other valuable ingredients are preserved as much as possible.
Our plant recommendation: Use for planting NatureHolic InVitros. These are free of snails, planaria and other unwanted co-inhabitants. Also free of algae spores, bacteria and fungi.
Expert Tip: We recommend for fish keeping the NatureHolic 3 Phase Liquid. The care set offers the best all-round protection for your animals. It ensures optimal conditions for successful breeding and keeping.
