Unusually colorful even for an aquarium plant, the American Water Hedge Didiplis diandra occurs in nature in the eastern part of the United States of America. This particular stem plant has needle-shaped underwater leaflets that stand crosswise opposite each other on the stem. This gives the aquatic hedge a particularly graceful, delicate appearance. The aquarium plant grows around 30 cm tall, making it perfect in the middle ground of a larger aquarium or in the background of a smaller aquarium.
Under plenty of light and when well supplied with nutrients, the American Water Hedge shows its full play of colors - then it shines in all shades of orange and red you can imagine. A good supply of iron and micronutrients is crucial for this. Didiplis diandra needs fertilization with CO2 to grow vigorously and quickly. Under weaker light, the graceful-looking aquatic hedge remains green.
With its bright colors, Didiplis diandra makes a spectacular contrast to green aquarium plants, but it also looks great in the company of other colorful plants. Thanks to its fast growth, it is a good competitor for pesky algae.
Didiplis diandra tolerates regular pruning very well, for a nice bushy and compact growth the plant should be trimmed accordingly often. The American water hedge can be easily propagated by simply using the cut shoots as cuttings. Put them into the substrate and you're done. In this way, even overaged bushes can be easily rejuvenated.
This Didiplis diandra comes from the laboratory, where it was grown in in vitro culture. This method of cultivation guarantees that the plant is free from pesticides and animal pests, as well as algae. You can put it into your aquarium without prior quarantine. Please wash the transparent nutrient substrate off the roots carefully beforehand.
Our recommendation: For a splendid plant growth we recommend the use of the NatureHolic fertilizer series and for new set up the Premium Nutrient Substrate NatureHolic GroundBooster.
