Moss column - Aegagropila linnaei - Aquarium Deco

The moss column overgrown with Aegagropila linnaei brings Asian flair to any aquarium. The short dark green threads of the pretty, slow-growing green algae stand close together on the column. When the alga is well ingrown, the column becomes increasingly puffy and attractive. Aegagropila linnaei is well known as a moss ball, here a flat layer of it has been tied onto the moss column. A group of moss columns looks especially nice - an odd number looks more harmonious than an even number.

Pollutant-degrading filter bacteria and other microorganisms find a very large surface to colonize on these columns. Thus, the moss column actively contributes to an improvement of the water quality.

It also provides additional surface area and grazing grounds for shrimp of all ages and hiding places and food for the smallest dwarf shrimp, which love to graze the biofilms that form on the moss. The moss column is thus also ideally suited forbreeding tanks.
