Ancistrus sp. L 184 / L 107 is a fastidious loricariid from the catchment area of the Rio Negro in South America. Soft water is advantageous for this species. The aquarium for the Brilliant Antenna Catfish should be well filtered, a strong current is not needed, but a high oxygen content is important. The Brilliant Antenna Catfish can be found hiding under rocks or on wood in its natural biotope. In contrast to the usual 0815 Antennae Catfish, the colors of this beautiful Ancistrus are much more brilliant - the white dots on a black background look like a starry sky. The body shape of this still undetermined loricariid catfish is strikingly flat, its head is very broad.
Aquariums in which the Brilliant Antenna Catfish Ancistrus sp. L 184 is kept should not be too brightly lit. Good structuring with stones and soft root wood is also important, so that the catfish can find hiding places and retreats. A substrate of sand or fine gravel and a water slightly tea-colored by humic substances have a beneficial effect on the beautiful catfish. An edge length from 100 cm should be the minimum for these catfish. Plants are only conditionally applicable, here one should set on firm and robust plants. Anubias, Cryptocorynen and Javafarn are here the classical choice.
The breeding of Ancistrus sp. L 184 is very demanding. The water should have a conductance around 150 µS, so it should be really very soft, slightly acidic and low in minerals. The temperature should be increased to 29 °C to stimulate spawning. Frequent water changes signal the start of the mating season to the catfish. Increasing the current also encourages spawning. The Ancistrus sp. L107 is a Cave spawnersthe brood is guarded by the male. When rearing the fry, the pH should not rise above 7.
Ancistrus sp. L 184 should also be kept in soft water. A water temperature of approx. 25-29 °C is ideal. The Brilliant Antennae Catfish with a length of up to 14 cm is a large, but despite its size a peaceful and quiet loricariid. For this reason it can be very well socialized with shrimps, snails, smaller peaceful soft water fish and also other catfish.
Ancistrus sp. L 184 are omnivores. Since the L 107 or L 184 is a bottom-oriented aquarium fish, the food should also be selected appropriately. In addition to tablet food for loricariid catfish, the ornamental fish also very readily accept sinking live food such as shiny worms or frozen food. Soft woods are important, which they scrape off and which provide them with fiber for a well-functioning digestion.
Our food recommendation: The NatureHolic Catfish Feed is a professionally formulated complete food especially for all sucking catfish. The food tabs contain important dietary fibers such as chitin and plant fibers, which are essential for the survival of catfish for a well-functioning digestion. With strong proteins from insect larvae as well as carbohydrate-rich vegetables NatureHolic Catfish Feed provides all sucking catfish optimally with all important building materials for a fast and healthy growth. The extra hard chips can be scraped off by the catfish close to nature - here they really have to do something for their food! An occupation like in nature.
Our plant recommendation: Use for the planting NatureHolic InVitros. These are free of snails, planarians and other unwanted co-inhabitants. Also free of algae spores, bacteria and fungi.
Expert Tip: We recommend for fish keeping the NatureHolic 3 Phase Liquid. The care set offers the best all-round protection for your animals. It ensures optimal conditions for successful breeding and keeping.
