Genus: | Anubias |
The narrow-leaved spear leaf Anubias barteri var. angustifolia originates from Africa. It is often mistakenly sold as Anubias afzelli. However, it is a variety of Anubias barteri. The dark green leaves are very narrow elliptical and relatively long. With 30 cm this spear leaf becomes quite high and fits therefore rather into the middle ground of larger aquariums. As a perennial, this Anubias feels particularly well tied up on wood or stone, please never plant it in the substrate. The rhizome could be damaged and rot away.
In nature, spear leaves occur in the splash zone of fast flowing streams in the shade of tall jungle trees. They have no trouble even in low light aqu ariums.
Anubias barteri var. angustifolia also does very well out of water, making it well suited for a humid terrarium or even paludarium.
If you want to propagate Narrow-leaved Anubias, simply separate a small piece of the rhizome with two or more leaves on it and tie this offshoot to a piece of wood or a rock.
Our recommendation: For magnificent plant growth, we recommend premium nutrient soil when setting up a new plant NatureHolic GroundBooster
Expert Tip: With the NatureHolic plant adhesive stick this plant gently and easily on stones, roots and decoration . Made in Germany, the adhesive does not pollute the water and has no negative impact on the stock.
