from over 3,000 reviews "The beautiful shape and the special structure of the dark brown, almost black shell of the guinea fowl snail, which is large even for a Tylomelania, and its black, finely white dotted body make the Tylomelania patriarchalis a great eye-catcher in the aquarium. It reaches a shell length of up to 12 cm. It originates from Lake Matano on Sulawesi, where it lives on soft substrate. As a soft substrate snail it does not go to plants - not even in the aquarium.
Unlike the shrimp from Lake Matano, however, the Tylomelania patriarchalis can cope with a much wider range of water values. It also does not need the extremely high temperatures of 29 °C, which prevail in Lake Matano, in the aquarium. It already feels very comfortable at 25 °C. As a soft substrate snail, it also needs sand or a corner with healing earth in the aquarium, which it can burrow through. Because of its size the tank should not be too heavily planted. The decoration should be such that the snail cannot get caught anywhere. The pH should be between 7 and 8.5, the water can be medium hard, and the guinea fowl snail tolerates temperatures of 25 to 30 °C. Due to the size of the animals they need at least 54 l.
The guinea fowl snail is extremely peaceful, and it can be socialized with dwarf shrimp, peaceful snails, and non-predatory fish with no problems at all.
The guinea fowl snail likes to eat algae and biofilm, keeping the aquarium clean. For a species-appropriate diet we recommend the Natureholic Snail Feed, to avoid shell damage we use Spinach Crustarocks. Also brown autumn leaves are gladly eaten as additional food.
The breeding of the guinea fowl snail is quite uncomplicated. Like all Tylomelania they are bisexual and viviparous. However, the sexes cannot be distinguished with the naked eye or by external characteristics. The female has the young in her brood pouch, where they develop one by one. When they are born (always singly, every few weeks), they are 7 to 10 mm in size. Therefore, even without a male, the female can still give birth to a certain number of young. If you want to breed, we recommend a group of at least five guinea fowl snails, so that males and females are present in any case. Unfortunately, the young animals often starve to death in the aquarium in the first few days, if you want to breed we recommend AlgaePlates this permanent food lasts up to 2 weeks in the aquarium and is always available to the animals as a 24h food supply!
Our food recommendation: With the Natureholic Snailfeed Power Paste you create a feeding lawn that is very well accepted by all aufwuchs feeding snails. Also delicate wild-caught snails such as racing snails or staghorn snails, which are stressed after transport and do not go to conventional food, can be well fed up with it.
Our plant recommendation: Use for planting NatureHolic InVitros. These are free of snails, planarians and other unwanted co-inhabitants. Also free of algae spores, bacteria and fungi.
Expert Tip: We recommend for fish keeping the NatureHolic 3 Phase Liquid. The care set offers the best all-round protection for your animals. It ensures optimal conditions for successful breeding and keeping.
Actively prevent outbreaks: With the revolutionary Natureholic Snail Barrier you minimize in the simplest way the escape and the danger of injury of your snails from aquariums without cover. With just a finger swipe you apply the paste on the upper inner panes, snails will turn around at this invisible barrier and climb back into the aquarium.
