Alternanthera rosaefolia - NatureHolic InVitro

The pink-leaved parrot leaf Alternanthera reineckii "rosaefolia" from South America is a particularly beautiful variety of Alternanthera reineckii. The leaves live up to the name "parrot leaf": they are olive-brown to rose-red on the upper side, the underside is purple. This aquarium plant grows up to 20-40 cm tall, making it an ideal fit in the middle ground to background. Regular pruning helps keep the bushes nice and compact, and is well tolerated. This colorful aquarium plant looks best as a group or dense bush.

The pink-leaved parrot leaf can also grow under low light and without CO2 fertilization - then the stem plant likes to shed its lower leaves - but it shows its most beautiful colors under medium to strong light, a good supply of nutrients and a supplementary fertilization of CO2. Since the rose-leaved parrot leaf grows rather moderately fast, it is not as time-consuming to care for as other stem plants.

Alternanthera reineckii "rosaefolia" is very easy to propagate as a stem plant: Side shoots or the tips of the shoots are cut at a length of about 10 cm and inserted into the substrate. There they grow quickly.

You can also grow Alternanthera reineckii "rosaefolia" excellently on land in a humid terrarium or waterfall aquarium. There it can even come to bloom.
