from over 3,000 reviews "Brotia herculea comes from Southeast Asia, where it lives in clear rivers and streams on soft substrate. It likes to use fallen leaves in the water. The shell of the Hercules lace snail is hazel to dark brown, it gets darker towards the tip. It grows up to 10 cm long. The decorative and conspicuous Hercules snail bears strong ribbed structures, its body is dark gray to black, its foot is slightly lighter.
Hercules snails are considered health police among aquarium inhabitants. They eat food de bris and remove dead aquatic plants before they can negatively affect water quality. They search the gravel for edible remains and thus loosen it up - although they do not actively dig. Due to their size, however, what they find in the aquarium is usually not enough for them, so they have to be fed. Among other things, the Hercules snail prefers dust food, because like all snails of the genus Brotia it filters fine particles. But also food tablets, vegetables and brown autumn leaves are eaten with pleasure.
Hercules snails are more active in the evening and night hours. Despite their stately size, these animals are absolutely peaceful and can be socialized with virtually all not too curious and non-predatory aquarium inhabitants.
Brotia herculea is one of the few snails of the genus Brotia that can be reared in the aquarium. The Hercules Tower Snail is separately sexed, so males and females are needed for successful breeding. The females of the Hercules lace snail do not lay eggs. The young grow in the brood pouches of the females and are released fully developed as juvenile snails.
The Hercules Tower Snail prefers a pH higher than 7, and it tends to like hard water that is rich in minerals. The carbonate hardness should be above 3, and the total hardness above 6. A rather soft substrate is advantageous, and the aquarium should be set up in such a way that this very large growing snail cannot get caught in gaps between stones or wood . Too dense planting is also detrimental to them.
Our food recommendation: With the Natureholic Snail Feed Power Paste you create a feeding lawn that is very well accepted by all aufwuchs feeding snails. Also delicate wild-caught snails like racing snails or staghorn snails, which are stressed after transport and do not go to conventional food, can be fed up well with it.
Our plant recommendation: Use for planting NatureHolic InVitros. These are free of snails, planarians and other unwanted co-inhabitants. Also free of algae spores, bacteria and fungi.
Expert Tip: We recommend for fish keeping the NatureHolic 3 Phase Liquid. The care set offers the best all-round protection for your animals. It ensures optimal conditions for successful breeding and keeping.
Actively prevent outbreaks: With the invisible Natureholic Snail Barrier you prevent the escape and loss of your snails from the aquarium.
