Heteranthera zosterifolia - NatureHolic InVitro

The beautiful stem plant Heteranthera zosterifolia comes from Brazil. The sea-grass-leaved cinquefoil, as it is also called, is a real classic in the aquarium hobby. It has a permanent place in the Holland aquarium, and it is also popular in the natural aquarium. With its light green, long and narrow leaflets, the seagrass-leaved Trugwort is a welcome eye-catcher. Since Heteranthera zosterifolia responds very well to pruning, it can even be kept as a short shrub in the foreground, but it also fits perfectly in the middle ground and background.

If you let the Heteranthera grow, it will reach a height of 30-50 cm. It branches very well, even better when pruned back. This stem plant is most beautiful when planted in groups. The more light, the more compact its growth.

Heteranthera zosterifolia grows very fast, especially under a lot of light, which is why you should then thin it out from time to time. Due to its fast growth it consumes a lot of nutrients and thus systematically counteracts algae plagues.

Typical are the bright water roots, which the Trugkölbchen forms at the leaf bases. If you cut offshoots here, you already have a fully rooted plant that you only have to insert. But also cut shoot tips without roots can be simply put into the substrate, they grow reliably when they are at least 15 cm long.
