The very tolerant and easy to cultivate Flooding Arrowhead (Sagittaria subulata) from America grows well in all kinds of aquariums. The Flooding Arrowhead grows enormously fast. By the density of planting you can influence the height of growth: When planted densely, the long ribbon-shaped leaves grow up to 60 cm long - they then strongly resemble those of a vallisneria. Densely planted Sagittarias are a magnificent sight in the background! When planted loosely with some space between the arrowhead plants, the growth height is limited to 5-10 cm. Especially in the middle ground this is an advantage. If a long leaf grows out here, it is simply cut off.
The ribbon-shaped leaves of Sagittaria subulata are medium green. Through runners, beautiful groups are soon formed. The Flooding Arrowhead likes nutrient-rich water, especially the plant needs a good supply of iron, otherwise the leaves quickly become yellowish pale. Sagittaria subulata also thrives in low light and without added CO2. In tanks fertilized with CO2, however, it grows even faster.
Its extremely good growth rate and nutrient requirements make Sagittaria subulata an excellent plant for controlling unwanted algae.
NatureHolic InVitro plants are grown in the laboratory under sterile conditions. This has the advantage that no pesticides need to be used and there are no bystanders such as snails or worms in the plants. So this InVitro grown Sagittaria subulata may be put into the aquarium immediately, even with sensitive shrimps. Please rinse the roots briefly to free them from the culture medium.
Sagittaria subulata reproduces by runners. If you want to thin out the stands: Cut off stolons with sharp scissors and plant elsewhere.
Flooding arrowhead can even come to flower in the aquarium: Then the plant drives long flower stalks to the water surface, on which white small flowers sit.
Our recommendation: For a splendid plant growth we recommend the use of the NatureHolic fertilizer series and for new set up the Premium Nutrient Substrate NatureHolic GroundBooster.
