The Super Crystal Red - Caridina logemanni is a particularly pretty breeding form of the bee shrimp, in whose breeding the goal is to obtain a flat, opaque red and only a small amount of white. A lot of work and time has gone into the German strain we offer. In 90% of the offspring the pattern of the "Super Crystal Red" appears again, as shown on the photos. The bee shrimp was not listed as a separate species for a long time, but was called Caridina cf. cantonensis. However, in December 2014 it was given its scientific name Caridina logemanni. Bee shrimp originally come from small, very clean, oxygen-rich and cool streams from southern China/Hong Kong. The Super Crystal Red is a cultivated form from aquaristics and can be seen as a further development of the Crystal Red, which was discovered by the Japanese Hisayasu Suzuki in his aquarium with wild-colored bee shrimps and was specifically bred further.
Also in the aquarium keeping of the Super Crystal Red shrimp clean, cool and very soft water has proven itself. In medium to hard tap water the animals can keep for a while, but they will not reproduce well there. This soft water shrimp needs a very low KH (carbonate hardness). The easiest way to create favorable conditions for the animals is to use a hardening salt specifically tailored to their needs in conjunction with osmosis water or demineralized water. An active Soil, which buffers the values within a range suitable for Super Crystal Red, has also proven to be very helpful. Of course you can also keep the Super Crystal Red shrimp on - preferably dark - neutral substrate like gravel. This gravel should in no case harden the water.
Since the Super Crystal Red, like all bee shrimp, prefers very clean water, you should change 10 to 30% water per week and be careful not to overfeed the animals. In summer the temperature of the water in the aquarium should not exceed 25 °C permanently, eventually the aquarium has to be cooled accordingly. If you keep the bacteria concentration low and the oxygen concentration high, the Super Crystal Red are much less susceptible to infections and problems with molting, and many more juveniles will come through.
Under good environmental conditions, the Super Crystal Red breeds well. After a gestation period of three to four weeks, the female releases 20 to 40 baby shrimp. Initially, like all bee shrimp babies, the Super Crystal Red juveniles do not move far from where they hatched. Feeding with a good dust food is therefore important, which "arrives" everywhere in the aquarium. In this strain of Super Crystal Red, about 90% drop young in the offspring, again showing this pattern of markings. The 10% that show a different red-white pattern should be consistently sorted out if you want to keep the strain Super Crystal Red pure.
Super Crystal Red shrimp are omnivores, and so they are not really picky about food. They are very fond of grazing on brown fall foliage and will also eat it if it has been broken down appropriately by bacteria - in nature, this is a major food source for bee shrimp. Brown foliage does not negatively affect water values, on the contrary - the humic substances it contains positively influence molting. A protein food suitable for shrimp and adapted to their needs should be given twice a week. Otherwise, you should feed mainly vegetable.
Super Crystal Red shrimp reach a maximum body length of 3 to 4 centimeters. Males remain slightly smaller and also slimmer. Like all bee shrimp varieties, Super Crystal Red are quite peaceful and can be easily socialized with other shrimp that have the same water quality requirements. Super Crystal Red can also be socialized with peaceful snails and also with small, non-predatory fish. Since the Super Crystal Red does not reproduce as much as for example the Red Fire shrimp, a species tank is definitely worth considering.
Our food recommendation: NatureHolic's soft mainfeed softpads are designed for daily feeding. They contain all the nutrients shrimp need for shell development, egg formation and growth. During the production we pay attention to a gentle and environmentally friendly production, in which the vitamins and other valuable ingredients are preserved as far as possible.
Our plant recommendation: Use for the planting NatureHolic InVitros. These are free of snails, planaria and other unwanted co-inhabitants. Also free of algae spores, bacteria and fungi.
Expert Tip: We recommend for fish keeping the NatureHolic 3 Phase Liquid. The care set offers the best all-round protection for your animals. It ensures optimal conditions for successful breeding and keeping.
