The Black Pinto Galaxy from Skyfish are hybrids of different shrimp species, which were specifically crossed and bred by Leon Su. Among others, bee shrimp (Caridina logemanni), probably Caridina cantonensis and tiger shrimp (Caridina mariae) from southern China are involved here, but the Black Pinto Galaxy is a breeding form from aquaristics. These are hybrids of different species, which is why these animals are listed as Caridina sp. These Black Pinto Galaxy shrimps come from the breeding of Leon Su from Taiwan, who is also known as Skyfish in the shrimp breeding scene.
There are different varieties of the Black Pinto Galaxy. They all have in common that they have a white pattern on a black ground. The Galaxy pattern consists of small bright white markings on the head carapace, the Pinto pattern is more of a spotting.
Here you buy breeding groups. The Grade S has smaller white markings, in the highest Grade SS the white patterns are particularly large and well colored.... The Black Pinto Galaxy Zebra variety also has white stripes on the abdomen, which do not go all the way down. In the Pinto Galaxy Tiger the white horizontal stripes on the abdomen are partly continuous from top to bottom. Particularly well known is the Pinto Galaxy Fishbone which, in addition to the stripes on the abdomen, has a distinctive dorsal stripe that gives it a fishbone pattern.
Black Pinto Galaxy Shrimp grow from 2 to a maximum of 3 inches in size, with the male shrimp remaining smaller and more slender than the female. Besides their body shape, they can of course be recognized by the fact that they carry eggs under their abdomen. The egg spot is not recognizable in Black Pinto Galaxy shrimp females because the color coverage is too good. Often the second abdominal segment of females is significantly broadened. This is called a tiger scoop, and this can also be used to distinguish the sexes.
Black Pinto Galaxy shrimp require soft, slightly acidic water with as low a carbonate hardness as possible. High oxygen levels and low bacteria counts in the open water are also important. The filter should work well and effectively to keep the water load low and the bacterial density low as well. Because of their special requirements, Skyfish Black Pinto Galaxy Dwarf Shrimp should not be kept in tap water. Successful breeders of these high breeding shrimp like to use osmosis water or demineralized water that is salinized with bee salt, which only raises the total hardness and does not contain carbonate hardness. You can buy this mineral salt here in the store at Garnelio.
The Black Pinto Galaxy Dwarf Shrimp should not be kept in well fertilized planted aqu ariums, because it does not tolerate high nitrate levels. The aquarium volume for the high breeding Black Pinto Galaxy shrimp should be at least 20 liters, more is of course always possible.
At temperatures of 20 to 25 degrees the Black Pinto Galaxy shrimp do best. If the water temperature in the aquarium rises above the maximum value in summer, an aquarium cooler should be used.
The breeding aquarium for high breeding shrimp is operated with active Soil. Soil suitable for shrimp is not pre-fertilized and buffers the pH and carbonate hardness in ranges that are optimal for shrimp from soft water. In the Garnelio system, Skyfish shrimp sit in salted osmosis water with a conductance of 250 microsiemens and at a pH slightly below 7.
In the breeding aquarium for high breeding shrimp like the Skyfish Black Pinto Galaxy, few plants are used to keep the aquarium uncluttered. Moss cushions or bucephalandra are best suited for this purpose. Tied on small root pieces or small water-neutral stones they can be taken out of the aquarium if the shrimps are to be selected for color and pattern.
A socialization of the somewhat stress-prone Caridina sp. Black Pinto Galaxy shrimp with fish is not recommended. In a sufficiently large tank a keeping with small growth eating catfish like ear lattice catfish Otocinclus is conceivable. The Black Pinto Galaxys are definitely better off in a species tank. With snails a socialization is conceivable, unfortunately they do not live long in such extreme soft water. A great alternative to snails are shiny worms or Tubifex, because they clean up the bottom and keep it loose. They also serve as a live food source for the shrimp. With other shrimp from the serrata group such as bee shrimp or tiger shrimp, mixing and undesirable patterns can occur. If one wants to keep the pattern pure, a species tank is definitely preferred.
Advanced shrimp keepers will get the Skyfish Black Pinto Galaxy shrimp to breed relatively easily. After mating, the females push eggs under their abdomens where they nurse and fan them until the young hatch. This takes about four to six weeks and depends on water temperature. These Caridina hybrids are of the specialized reproductive type, so the newly hatched young look like their parents; they are not larvae. 15 to 30 young per litter are the rule.
Skyfish Black Pinto Galaxy shrimp are omnivorous, but require mostly plant foods. They should be fed a high quality protein food once or twice a week. The Taiwanese breeder Skyfish has developed a shrimp food especially for its breeding varieties, which is ideal for this purpose, in addition to Artemia nauplii. As green food dried green walnut leaves or scalded nettle leaves are very good. Brown autumn leaves or a small piece of a sea almond leaf serve as valuable permanent food. Tannins are contained here, which can have a very positive effect on the water and on the shrimp.
Our food recommendation: NatureHolic's soft Mainfeed Softpads are designed for daily feeding. They contain all the nutrients shrimp need for shell development, egg formation and growth. During the production we pay attention to a gentle and environmentally friendly production, where the vitamins and other valuable ingredients are preserved as much as possible.
Our plant recommendation: Use for planting NatureHolic InVitros. These are free of snails, planaria and other unwanted co-inhabitants. Also free of algae spores, bacteria and fungi.
Expert Tip: We recommend for fish keeping the NatureHolic 3 Phase Liquid. The care set offers the best all-round protection for your animals. It ensures optimal conditions for successful breeding and keeping.
