Here you buy the red Pintos with their characteristic bright white markings and magnificent dark red. Pintos are the result of targeted crossbreeding of Taiwan Bees / Shadow Bees with bee shrimp, they are therefore addressed as Caridina sp. At 3 cm body length, they grow rather large for a dwarf shrimp. Female red pintos tend to be on the upper end of the size scale, male pintos are smaller and less bulbous. Red pintos are purebred.
We keep the pintos on active substrate (Soil), which stabilizes the water values, and in osmosis water, which we harden up with Salty Shrimp Bee Salt to a conductance of approx. 250-300 microsiemens. The water temperature is 23 °C. This is how the animals reproduce. The temperature should not climb above 25 °C even in summer, you may need an aquarium cooler.
Red pintobabies come through in a larger number, if you equip the aquarium with an active Soil ideal for soft water shrimps and harden up osmosis water with an appropriate mineral salt. In Germany we have unfortunately only in very few regions tap water, which is suitable for the attitude of soft water animals. Optimal conditions for these quite sensitive animals can not be created with it as a rule.
Concerning their food red pintos are not very choosy. They are omnivores, like most dwarf shrimps. For this reason, we recommend that a few leaves of brown autumn foliage in various stages of decomposition are also kept as permanent food in the pinto aquarium - this foliage optimizes the water quality for the red pintos and also provides them with an excellent grazing ground. In principle, feed consisting mainly of vegetable raw materials is ideal for the red pintos, supplemented two to three times a week with a suitable protein feed . Then the animals lack nothing.
The females of the red pinto practice brood care. For this purpose, they attach their 20 to 40 eggs to their swimming legs after the mating act. There they nurse and clean them until after 4-6 weeks fully developed minipintos hatch. During their first days of life they do not move far from the place where they hatched, so you should provide the offspring with a good dust food like Natureholic Babyfeed .
You can socialize red pintos with other shrimp if they have the same requirements. Red Pintos mix with bee shrimp, tiger shrimp, Taiwan Bees / Shadow Bees and other species from the group around Caridina serrata like Caridina logemanni. For the specific breeding of red pintos we advise a species tank. Peaceful snails or also small peaceful plant eating fish are suitable aquarium companions.
Our food recommendation: NatureHolic's soft mainfeed softpads are designed for daily feeding. They contain all the nutrients shrimp need for shell development, egg formation and growth. During the production we pay attention to a gentle and environmentally friendly production, which preserves the vitamins and other valuable ingredients as much as possible.
Our plant recommendation: Use for the planting NatureHolic InVitros. These are free of snails, planaria and other unwanted co-inhabitants. Also free of algae spores, bacteria and fungi.
Expert Tip: We recommend for fish keeping the NatureHolic 3 Phase Liquid. The care set offers the best all-round protection for your animals. It ensures optimal conditions for successful breeding and keeping.
