The Red Shadow Mosura shrimp is a color form of the Shadow shrimp, also called Taiwan shr imp. This breeding form was created when shadow shrimp were mated with bee shrimp. The pattern comes from the bee shrimp, the coloration from the Shadows. The Red Shadow Mosura has a white top color and a dark red Mosura pattern. The head is dark red with a white mask, and there may be a red spot on the top of the abdomen. According to one theory Taiwan Bees originated from a mutation, other breeders assume a cross with Caridina mariae, the tiger shrimp.
The females grow to 2.5 to 3 cm, the males remain somewhat smaller at about 2 cm. The abdomen of the females is somewhat extended downward, the males are more slender.
The Red Shadow Mosura shrimp needs clean and oxygen-rich water with a temperature of maximum 25 °C. Heating is not necessary, if the water is at room temperature this is sufficient. In summer you should possibly even think about cooling. In tap water it cannot be kept well and also not reproduced, except for very few exceptions. We keep them in our facility in osmosis water, which has been hardened with bee salt from Salty Shrimp to a conductance of about 300 microsiemens, and on active Soil, which adjusts the water values optimally for Taiwan shrimp. We also recommend this type of keeping for the home aquarium. 10 to 30% water changes per week are advantageous.
As far as food is concerned, Red Shadow Mosura are not fussy. As omnivores they should be fed a balanced diet with a clear emphasis on vegetable food. A suitable protein food is advisable twice a week. Brown autumn leaves are an excellent shrimp food that can be left in the Red Shadow Mosura aquarium as a permanent food.
With good husbandry the Red Shadow Mosura shrimp can also be bred. The females squeeze out 20 to 40 eggs after mating and attach them to the swimming legs under their abdomen. After three to four weeks, the young hatch, which are relatively small and have very little movement. They should be fed sparingly but regularly with Dust food that reaches all parts of the aquarium, as they do not feed very actively at the beginning.
Red Shadow Mosura shrimp are peaceful group animals that socialize wonderfully with other shrimp matched by their requirements. The Red Shadow Mosura Shrimp should be kept in shrimp-only aquariums, possibly with peaceful snails or very small, herbivorous fish. Under no circumstances should it be socialized with crayfish, crabs, predatory snails or mussels.
Our Food Recommendation: NatureHolic's soft Mainfeed Softpads are designed for daily feeding. They contain all the nutrients shrimp need for shell development, egg formation and growth. During the production we pay attention to a gentle and environmentally friendly production, which preserves the vitamins and other valuable ingredients as much as possible.
Our plant recommendation: Use for planting NatureHolic InVitros. These are free of snails, planaria and other unwanted co-inhabitants. Also free of algae spores, bacteria and fungi.
Expert Tip: We recommend for fish keeping the NatureHolic 3 Phase Liquid. The care set offers the best all-round protection for your animals. It ensures optimal conditions for successful breeding and keeping.
