The cherry leaf from Asia, with scientific name Hygrophila corymbosa called, is a stem plant for the middle ground of large, high aquariums and the background in the aquarium or aquascape. Cherry leaf is a very thankful plant that is not very demanding and very easy to care for. The large, broad, bright green leaves look especially beautiful in combination with fine-feathered plants.
The cherry leaf grows quickly and thus deprives algae of the food basis. The cherry leaf, also called giant water friend, is therefore ideally suited as algae prevention in the aquarium.
Hygrophila corymbosa should be trimmed regularly. Use the cut shoots as head cuttings: simply stick them a few centimeters deep into the substrate, they will quickly form a root system. The cut plants will sprout again at the cut, so you will keep the plant group compact and bushy.
The cherry leaf is especially effective in an aquascape or planted aquarium if you stagger the bushes from front to back, that is, cut them back to different heights.
Without pruning, the Giant Water Lily will grow out of the water, which can also look beautiful, especially in open aquariums. With a bit of luck, the plant will then even bloom on the stems that have grown up.
The cherry leaf is also suitable for cultivation above water: in the Wabi Kusa, in the paludarium or waterfall aquarium it can be used in this way very nicely. In doing so, you must either cut it back more often (in smaller containers) or place it in large tanks.
This Hygrophila corymbosa comes from the laboratory. InVitro plants are grown in their cups without contact with algae or parasites. Therefore, you do not need to quarantine this cherry leaf before using it in your aquarium. Please carefully remove the transparent nutrient substrate from the roots under running water beforehand.
Our recommendation: For a magnificent plant growth we recommend the use of the NatureHolic fertilizer series and for new setup the Premium Nutrient Substrate NatureHolic GroundBooster.
