from over 3,000 reviews "Propagation: | possible in fresh water |
Water values: | soft |

Origin: | German offspring |
Coloring: | red white |
Japanese Hisayasu Suzuki one day discovered a red and white shrimp in his aquarium with black bee shrimp. He succeeded in consolidating this coloration by breeding, and today the Crystal Red shrimp is one of the most popular shrimp in invertebrate aquaristics. Its typical characteristic is the bright red coloration, which is interrupted by white spots or stripes. The females of the Crystal Red shrimp can grow up to 3.5 cm, the males remain somewhat smaller.
Overall, the Crystal Red Shrimp is considered a very peaceful and fairly uncomplicated group animal. An initial stocking of 10 to 20 shrimp is advisable to prevent stress and thus diseases. It is also compatible with other shrimp species, provided the requirements for the water values are approximately the same. Also with small, peaceful fish or with snails the Crystal Red shrimp can be well socialized, although a pure shrimp tank can provide for a higher survival rate of the offspring.
In nature, bee shrimp are found in very soft, clean and oxygen-rich water in cool streams. The Crystal Red shrimp can also be kept in harder water for a certain period of time, but reproduction will then be very difficult. These shrimps are animals from soft water, which prefer a very low carbonate hardness. Only in a few areas suitable water comes from the tap. To provide the Crystal Red shrimp with suitable conditions for successful breeding, you cannot avoid the use of osmosis water and a special remineralization agent in hard water areas Hardening salt for remineralization. The use of an active soils, which keeps the water values in an optimal range for the Crystal Red shrimp, has proven to be successful. Neutral substrate such as gravel or sand can of course be used as long as it does not harden the water. A water change of 10 to 30% per week has also proven successful. Temperatures above 25 °C are relatively poorly tolerated, so in summer you should possibly think about a cooling option.
Crystal Red shrimp keep the aquarium clean by grazing algae growth and other biofilms and eating detritus and food remains. They also like to take special Shrimp food. For successful breeding, it has proven effective to provide a suitable protein food two to three times a week and otherwise feed a more vegetable diet. Brown autumn leaves are grazed with enthusiasm and can remain in the aquarium as permanent food.
If the external conditions are favorable, the reproduction of the Crystal Red shrimp is uncomplicated. The female can release up to 40 young every four weeks, which can be kept together with the parents.

Genial
